Cultivating leadership skills in adolescent girls is a critical step to ensuring they succeed and excel throughout their lives. Girls need a foundation of knowledge, skills and experiences to gain control over their lives, better articulate their needs, protect their personal assets, participate in community development, decisions and shape their futures. They can truly become leaders when they discover what matters
to them, connect with others to achieve their vision and, finally, take action. But they cannot do it alone. Girls need access to equitable quality education, safe spaces and welcoming communities that support and encourage their growth and development. They need mentors and role models.

Save Our Needy initiated M.E.T. (Motivate, Educate, Train) Girls Project to give leadership training to marginalized adolescent girls attending low-income secondary schools. During the program, the girls are trained on leadership, entrepreneurship, sexual and reproductive health, personal development, ICT and digital skills. They are given motivational and inspirational talks from female role models who have excelled in their lives and careers as well as connected to mentors. Girl clubs have been formed in schools to ensure sustainability of the program.

MET Girls is about empowering the girl-child. It is an innovative way of promoting girl-child education. The program defines an empowered girl as an active learner in school and a confident participator in her family and community. She has an expansive view of her possibilities, and lives in a community that expects fairness, where parents, caregivers and role models support her progress and goals.

More than 3 schools in Nigeria including New Era Girls High School, Ajigbeda Girls Senior Secondary School and Girls Senior Academy have benefitted from this program so far.
