Period Puberty

One in 10 girls in sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their period. Some girls lose 20% of their education, for this reason, making them more likely to drop out of school completely.

Menstruation matters worldwide. The specific challenges that women and girls experience differ widely, depending on social norms, customs, education, and socio-economic factors. Managing menstruation with normalcy and indignity remains a challenge for too many women and girls in Africa.

Menstrual Hygiene Management is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Save Our Needy uses advocacy and action to raise awareness of the crucial importance of adequate Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and menstrual hygiene education so that no girl or woman is left behind because of her period.

Save Our Needy also distributes sanitary pads to vulnerable and marginalized women and girls to ensure that they have dignity during their period.

Save Our Needy develops community-led solutions to the challenges faced by girls and women regarding menstrual hygiene education and menstrual hygiene management. We create Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) plans which makes it possible to install toilets and hand-washing stations in communities - all of which are critical to helping girls and women manage their monthly cycles. We also train teacher-mentors to educate girls on leadership and reproductive health. We provide vulnerable girls with the tools and skills to navigate adolescence and avoid unintended pregnancies and sexual infections in order to ensure that no girl drops out of school.
